Abstract
The Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operation (AECO) sector increasingly relies on data-driven approaches to improve facility management and building performance. However, integrating accurate geometric documentation with real-time operational data remains a significant challenge, particularly for modern institutional buildings. This thesis addresses this gap by developing and implementing a reproducible workflow for the creation of a Digital Shadow of an operational building, using the Politecnico di Torino Energy Center as a case study. The methodology is structured as a three-stage process. First, an integrated 3D metric survey was conducted, combining terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), SLAM-based mobile mapping, and a topographic control network established with a Total Station to ensure geometric reliability.
Second, the acquired point clouds were processed and translated into a semantically structured as-built BIM model through a Scan-to-BIM workflow, followed by geometric verification against the original survey data
