Beijing 2022 was a successful bid by Beijing, China and the Chinese Olympic Committee for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The IOC selected the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics on July 31, 2015, which Beijing won. This makes Beijing the first city to host both Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

The venues have been planned in Zhangjiakou, a popular skiing site located at 170 km far from Beijing, in Yanqing and in the capital city as well. The purpose of the studio is to develop a design research on Olympics facilities as a long-term sustainability item, paying attention to the environment, economics and social impact. Eighteen students, between Chinese and Italians, have been worked together to design some alternative masterplans for Taizicheng Olympic Village, within Zhangjiakou venue. Some key items were: relationship among smart infrastructure systems and the new settlement; urban fabric concepts based on articulated street-houses sequence pattern; traditional courtyard dwellings re-invented; integration between the village and the surrounding landscape; re-use of housing and infrastructure for post-event period.
