Design and Development of a Didactic Humanoid Robotic Platform: A Hands-On Approach to Mechatronics.
Rel. Marco Vacca. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Mechatronic Engineering (Ingegneria Meccatronica), 2026
Abstract
The present thesis addresses the design and development of a didactic humanoid robotic platform conceived as an educational tool for outreach activities promoted by the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications. The main objective is to realize an integrated demonstrative system capable of highlighting the interaction between mechanical design, electronics, embedded control, actuation, and computer vision within a unified mechatronic architecture. The proposed platform combines open-source mechanical inspirations with original hardware and software solutions. It integrates a robotic arm derived from anthropomorphic 3D-printable structures and an animatronic head inspired by open-source eye mechanisms, both adapted and optimized for educational purposes. These subsystems are mounted on a custom-designed supporting structure developed to ensure compactness, robustness, and transportability.
A distributed control architecture is implemented to separate high-level perception tasks from low-level real-time actuation
