This thesis assesses the 3D life-cycle of a public adaptive reuse project in Italy within the context of Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodologies in Italian legislation by examining the example of the adaptive reuse and restoration process of Villa Azzurra, a historic pavilion within the former “Ex-Istituto Provinciale per Infermi di Mente Vittorio Emanuele III” complex in Grugliasco, Italy. The study analyzes the BIM application on Villa Azzurra by first describing what is BIM and why and how it is used on historical buildings, then it explains how the BIM usage in public projects was introduced and developed in Italy, then it mentions the historical significance of Villa Azzurra and how the complex came to the state that it is, then it explains the BIM project workflow through the regulations and the stakeholders, finally, it analyzes the Revit model of the executive project in detail, explains how the model is prepared for meeting the expected standards from the executive project phase with examples.
