Abstract
This thesis addresses the assessment and optimization of the underground ventilation system at the Rodoretto talc mine operated by Imerys Talc Italy S.p.A. The work responds to an industrial need: the existing main exhaust fans are aging, spare parts are limited, and commercial replacement offers have already been received. The selection problem is therefore treated not as a simple equipment purchase but as a technical-economic decision that must integrate safety, airflow adequacy, mine development, model reliability, and investment and operating costs. The study defines the ventilation requirements using the regulatory and company criteria adopted for the mine, including airflow demand, air velocity limits, worker and diesel equipment dilution requirements, and safety margins.
An existing Ventsim model, previously calibrated for the primary ventilation network, is used as the starting point
