Dispersion Curve extraction and analysis in Hard Rock environment.

Abstract
This thesis focuses on the extraction and analysis of Rayleigh-wave dispersion curves for near-surface characterization in a hard-rock environment. The data used here is collected from the South Deep gold mine in the West Rand Goldfield of the Witwatersrand Basin, South Africa. These kinds of mineral exploration locations frequently have highly complex near-surface conditions. Severe noise, complicated wave-propagation effects, and uneven acquisition geometry frequently damage seismic data. These reasons reduce the efficiency of traditional seismic techniques. According to this approach, surface waves, which are frequently regarded as unwanted energy in reflection seismic processing, might actually provide useful information due to their high sensitivity to near-surface material parameters.
For obtaining both consistent and geologically relevant dispersion trends, the project develops a processing workflow for the extraction of local dispersion curves from active seismic data collected during a sparse 3D survey
