Abstract
Rapid urbanization and population growth are leading to an increased flood risk in urban areas, related to a combination of meteorological and hydrological factors, as well as land-use changes and inadequate flood defense infrastructures. This study analyzed the impact of precipitation on surface runoff generation, using the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) hydrological model coupled with high-resolution Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data. The study area of approximately 2 km² is located in the northeastern part of Turin, in the Piedmont region of Italy. Precipitation scenarios were defined based on Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) curves, considering return periods of 5, 10, 20, and 50 years, and rainfall event durations of 1, 3, and 6 hours.
The IDF curves were obtained using the daily rainfall time series over the period 1994-2024, retrieved from the Regional Environmental Protection Agency (ARPA) Piedmont catalog
