Development and validation of checklists in Advanced Product Quality Planning: case studies in the automotive industry.
Rel. Maria Pia Cavatorta. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Automotive Engineering (Ingegneria Dell'Autoveicolo), 2026
Abstract
The increasing complexity of automotive products and the need to control quality, time and costs make Product Quality Planning a strategic activity for automotive companies. In this context, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) provides a structured methodology to prevent risks, reduce late changes and ensure robust product and process development. This thesis analyses APQP as a preventive quality framework, with reference to IATF 16949 and AIAG-VDA APQP 3rd Edition, highlighting the role of its phases, deliverables and risk-oriented tools throughout the product lifecycle. The thesis originates from the internship carried out at BCS Automotive Interface Solutions, where a new global APQP standard composed of 43 deliverables was developed to harmonize quality practices across different plants.
For these deliverables, structured checklists with criticality levels and scoring criteria were defined to verify the correct application of procedures
