Abstract
The transition towards an integrated space economy necessitates the development of formal methodologies that can coherently translate the strategic objectives of space agencies into viable, well-defined system concepts. This thesis proposes a dynamic, parametrically linked systems engineering (SE) framework designed as a decision-support model, which establishes a traceable 'golden thread' from high-level technology gaps to the conceptual design of a lunar rover system. The model begins with the selection and prioritisation of technological gaps, as stated by the ISECG Global Exploration Roadmap, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and links these needs to mission concepts. A mission lifecycle analysis then derives both the functional Operational Capabilities (OCs) and the critical Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs).
A crucial step is the definition of a candidate set of system architectures (e.g., monolithic, modular, and swarm-based)
