Rel. Stefano Fantucci. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Architettura Per Il Progetto Sostenibile, 2024
Abstract
The goal of this thesis is creating a systematic review of opaque thrombe/solar walls, this thesis aims to reveal the historical evolution, fundamental principles and range of innovations that define their contemporary applications in sustainable building design. The main aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding of trombe wall technology, taking into account both traditional concepts and recent developments. The introduction sets the stage by providing a detailed background and description of opaque Trombe walls, paving the way for a research question that becomes the cornerstone of the comprehensive review. The research in the literature review is multifaceted, delving into the intricacies of operating principles, components, orientation considerations, heat transfer mechanisms, thermal performance measurements, and the subtle advantages and limitations inherent in traditional Trombe walls.
Based on this basic information, the thesis explains in detail the classification of various types of solar walls, their constituent elements and working principles
