The present work aims to assess the current market situation of biochar, with a particular on the European environment. Biochar is the product of pyrolysis, a combustion process made in absence of oxygen, and it is widely recognised as a valid carbon sequestration technology. Moreover, its porosity and high surface area make it suitable for agricultural employment and for a variety of beneficial applications. Seen material’s benefit, biochar has been adopted and produced in an ever-larger scale, even if the price of the final product and the value of the carbon credits issued for carbon sequestration performed are still high.
