Abstract
AEC projects are characterized to produce a large amount of data, being therefore the data management, a big challenge for the construction industry; however, the BIM has emerged as a methodological solution aimed to integrate design, modeling, construction and maintenance technical information that is exchanged in a coordinated way among all the construction project participants, increasing in this way the projects’ efficiency reflected in the optimization of technical solutions, cost and resource savings, shorter project lifecycles, improved interdisciplinary collaboration with the creation of single data models/databases and improved construction planning processes, leading altogether to higher quality results; nevertheless, the BIM methodology is still under development and implementation.
The structural engineering field necessary for the development of construction projects’ structural analysis and designs is considered as backward in terms of BIM methodology implementation; in fact, the main reason regards the complex calculus models, analysis and calculation reports derived from the use of mathematical FEM models
