Abstract
Landscape assumed a renewed meaning respect to the picturesque and aesthetic concept interpreted by cultural and normative scenarios of last century. The European Landscape Convention (CoE, 2000), is a fundamental change, because it extends landscape definition at whole territory, perceived by populations, derived from action of natural and/or human features and their reciprocal relations. The territory is considered as a complex entity, therefore it is fundamental the adoption of an integrated approach to manage sensitive territorial systems.
In literature there are several economic contributions about landscape, although the tendential diffidence to attribute it a monetary value. The economic definition of value is based on rationality of users, who according to their interests, make a choice among a series of alternatives.
The choice is traduced in the Willingness To Pay(WTP) for an improvement or to Willingness To Accept (WTA) compensate for a degradation: both represent the main measures of economic evaluation of landscape. The economic value of landscape depends by structural components, as well as the subjective perception of users, making complex the measurement empirically, 3even if the multidisciplinary convergence and the integrated approach facilitate the analysis. The thesis focuses on the issues related to economic value of landscape, with particular attention to the employ of systems of indicators and indices. The objective of the article is to define a synthetic index of Landscape Economic Value that could be employed for the construction of future territorial scenarios. For doing this, the synthetic index is used in a dynamic transformation model that works in a system made of clusters of municipalities where the Landscape Economic Value plays a role of attractor. The experimental model is applied for the evaluation of the vineyard landscape of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato (Italy), recently included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
