Abstract
The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources has intensified the need for efficient and reliable energy storage systems capable of managing power fluctuations and improving overall system stability. Among the available technologies, batteries provide high energy density for long-term energy storage, while supercapacitors offer high power density and rapid dynamic response. Combining these complementary technologies within a Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) allows the advantages of both devices to be exploited while mitigating their individual limitations. This thesis investigates the design, modelling, control, simulation, and experimental validation of a bidirectional DC-DC converter intended for energy exchange between a supercapacitor and a DC bus within a hybrid energy storage architecture.
The converter operates in two modes using the same half-bridge power stage
