Abstract
The security problem in the Internet of Things (IoT) landscape is one of the most pressing challenges in modern computing. The combination of a large attack surface with the constrained resources typical of the embedded systems makes IoT infrastructure a particularly attractive target for attackers. The problem is structural in nature: the existing operating systems that run these devices were not designed with security as a foundational principle, and attempting to retrofit security onto architectures not originally designed to support them has proven to be insufficient. The answer to this problem lies in a technological stack conceived with security as its primary design objective.
The subject of this thesis is CantripOS, an operating system developed by Google as part of the Open Se Cura project, designed to support machine learning workloads on secure, resource-constrained embedded platforms
