Abstract
This thesis presents the design and implementation of a modular Hardware-in-the-Loop-inspired test bench. This bench is developed for the validation of the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) of an agricultural rover within the e-RO.Alps project, an initiative aimed at developing a compact electrically powered tracked robot for precision viticulture in mountain environments. At the beginning of the work, the final rover hardware was not yet available, making it impossible to validate the VCU firmware directly with the target system. The thesis responds to this constraint by developing a testing infrastructure capable of emulating the behaviour of missing peripherals and validating the communication and input/output layer of the VCU through automated and repeatable test procedures, independently of the final hardware configuration.
The proposed architecture consists of three main components: a host PC running the OpenHTF-based orchestration software, a test board based on the STM32F103C8T6 microcontroller running the CHAOS real-time operating system, and the VCU under test
