Abstract
The increasing thermal loads experienced by modern automotive wheel brake systems, driven by vehicle mass growth and powertrain electrification, significantly raise the risk of critical phenomena such as brake fade and vapor lock. This necessitates the development of accurate and computationally efficient thermal modelling approaches capable of reliably predicting brake system thermal behaviour under transient operating conditions. Traditional reduced-order methods often rely on simplified assumptions, particularly in the treatment of convective and radiative heat transfer, leading to significant inaccuracies under demanding operating conditions. ?? This work, developed in collaboration between GammaTech Engineering S.r.l. and Volkswagen AG, presents a novel, physically consistent and computationally efficient, reduced-order modelling framework for the thermal analysis of automotive wheel brake systems.
