Abstract
The quality of public space : An inquiry into how pedestrian pathways shape urban life in Tabriz This thesis investigates Tarbiat street in Tabriz, Iran, with the aim of identifying the urban design factors that contribute to urban vitality in a historic environment. Public spaces play a key role in urban life by providing settings for social interactions, cultural events and daily activities and individual experiences. Pedestrian streets with diverse land uses and accessibility are important public spaces for enhancing quality of urban life in the city. As one of the most prominent pedestrian streets in Tabriz, Tarbiat street provides an opportunity to examine how urban design influences the quality and vitality of public space.
The study adopts a qualitative case study based on literature review, spatial analysis and secondary demographic data
