Kayaköy (Levissi), located in the Fethiye district of Muğla province in southwestern Türkiye, is one of the most prominent examples of Anatolian Greek settlements. It was abandoned after the 1922-1924 Turkish-Greek Population Exchange. Unlike many other settlements affected by the population exchange, Kayaköy has largely preserved as it is until today, and the physical traces of abandonment, forced displacement, and interrupted daily life remain visible in the landscape. Consequently, the settlement not only possesses architectural significance but also strong values related to collective memory, historical and cultural identity. This thesis evaluates Kayaköy as a multi-layered cultural landscape and aims to contribute to a holistic conservation framework through site-specific intervention strategies, while addressing the settlement’s diverse heritage values, challenges, and potentials.
