Abstract
Metastases are the most common malignancies in the liver, affecting 25% - 50% of patients with non-hematological cancers. They develop through angiogenesis driven by the tumor, resulting in an irregular and disorganized vascular network. In this context, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is a valuable imaging modality that enables real-time visualization of microvasculature. Administration of contrast agents intravenously improves lesion detection and vascular characterization. On CEUS sequences, metastatic liver lesions typically appear as hypoechoic regions with rim enhancement. CEUS data are analysed through qualitative and quantitative approaches. Time-intensity curves (TICs) provide semi-quantitative parameters such as peak and mean transit time, commonly used for lesion characterization and treatment monitoring.
However, enhancement heterogeneity is still mainly assessed visually, making it subjective and operator-dependent
