Abstract
Space has become increasingly accessible over the years, leading to uncontrolled overcrowding of satellites, especially in low Earth orbit. This has made necessary to take a more sustainable approach, to reduce current debris and extend the life of future satellites. In this context, the ability to work with unknown and uncooperative targets becomes essential. A key step to achieve this goal is the Inspection manoeuvre. Indeed, it allows the acquisition of initial target's data, such as its 3D structure, attitude and relative position. To perform the manoeuvre, optical sensors, such as single cameras, are of particular interest, thanks to their reduced size, weight and power consumption.
This thesis focuses on the development of a vision-only algorithm for three-dimensional reconstruction during the inspection phase of the ASI IOS (In-Orbit Servicing) mission
