Abstract
The academic work was conducted at the offices and with the resources of GE AvioAero in Rivalta (TO). It presents the results of an analysis of the effectiveness of the Full Authority Digital Engine and Propeller Control (FADEPC) system on a turboprop engine, following a structural and aerodynamic redesign of the high-pressure compressor necessitated during the development process. Specifically, the objective was to demonstrate that, despite the modification, the control system maintains the engine's operation within its functional, performance, and safety limits. This analysis also verified that the modification impacts the engine system as anticipated by the design team, adhering to the controllability limits previously agreed upon with the customer and stakeholders, and does not affect the engine's performance beyond the accepted and verified engine-to-engine variability, i.e., the expected minor differences in performance between individual units.
The approach presented in this work falls within risk mitigation activities (so-called derisking), which is a design criterion that prescribes conducting a series of analyses following any significant modification to the engine system architecture
