Abstract
Batteryless systems, as the name says, do not host a battery and base their operations solely on energy that is harvested from the surrounding environment through light, motion, temperature gradients, radio frequencies, or other sources, temporarily stored in a super-capacitor. Companies producing electronic systems or delivering their services may have benefits in adopting this approach, especially when targeting IoT applications. Among many benefits, they might save money and avoid the problem of replacing batteries. In this experimental thesis we implement an application whose main actor is a batteryless environmental datalogger able to transmit data and communicate remotely with a server via the long-range and ultra-low power LoRaWAN radio communication standard.
We implement the hardware of our datalogger using commercial devices
