Abstract
In the last few years, Politecnico di Torino has been undergoing a process of renovation and modernization of the information systems supporting the whole academic community in a transparent way, releasing open-source code and giving end users the opportunity to suggest improvements and new functionalities. This includes crucial services such as Portale della Didattica (Teaching Portal) for students, whose design was outdated and needed a major refresh. Although a new design has been officially released in September 2025, many subservices, such as the Thesis Management System, are still being delivered with the old system, causing design inconsistencies and adding functional issues.
The work presented in this thesis focuses on the modernization of the Thesis Management System, starting from an in-depth analysis of the thesis lifecycle, which examines the current process, supporting technologies and user interfaces for all the involved actors: students, faculty members and administrative operators
