Design and development of a data handling unit for space and aerial platforms.

Abstract
This thesis presents the design and development of a robust low-latency on-board data handling unit for lightweight space and aerial platforms. The project was carried out as an internship at Stratobotic S.r.l., a startup based in Turin which focuses on building advanced stratospheric platforms, called CubeHAPS. High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS) are emerging as a strategic hybrid between UAVs and satellites, offering persistent, high-resolution and high-coverage remote sensing capabilities from the stratosphere. However, the efficacy of these platforms depends heavily on the temporal integrity of the payload data. In dynamic aerial environments, standard software-based time stamping via On-Board Computers (OBC) has proven to be not precise enough, introducing variable latency and jitter, leading to significant georeferencing errors that negatively affect the end product.
The system proposed in this thesis, addresses the critical challenge of synchronizing heterogeneous data streams from multiple sensors: dual GNSS receivers, an AHRS and an optical (RGB) camera
