Abstract
This thesis explores entropy generation as a foundation for optimizing jet engine thermodynamic performance. Using the Maximum Entropy Generation Principle (MEPP), a theoretical framework is developed and applied to real data from a high-bypass turbofan engine. The study evaluates key thermodynamic variables, assesses irreversibility, and examines the limitations of entropy-based optimization under realistic operating conditions. Findings show that while most theoretical relations are validated, idealized pressure-ratio optimizations require refinement for physical applicability. However, results indicate that theoretical formulations, particularly Eq. (3.8), diverge under real engine conditions, highlighting the need for empirical corrections in entropy-based optimization.
