Abstract
Three-dimensional representation of subsurface condition has always been a source of issue and uncertainty. The methods in which engineers tend to represent the soil has been in an isolated environment, independent from infrastructure and existing buildings. Integration of disciplines so far has been conducted without the presence of geotechnical discipline. These issues are more tangible in the projects in which highly precise georeferenced data are needed. Tunnels, underground water distribution network, railways…modeling these projects requires accurate knowledge of subsurface conditions capable of integrate with complex infrastructure models. Building Information Modeling (BIM) was a breakthrough in design and construction industry, which enabled stakeholders to have access to 3D dynamic model enriched with constantly evolving, real time data.
However, traditional models were lacked coordination with geospatial data
