Abstract
The thesis aims to define the mitigation and adaptation strategies for the future sustainable development of the territories laid on permafrost that could help to prevent its degradation and provide comfortable living conditions to the locals. The research tends to understand the relationship between permafrost, global warming, and architecture, by analyzing the existing cultural heritage of Yakutsk (Russian Federation), modern research papers, and existing technological solutions of other countries that are facing the same problem. The thesis will focus on determining the best architectural and urban strategies for permafrost preservation and then will show an example of their application to the chosen site in Yakutsk.
