Research into improved mirror coating materials with lower thermal noise for future generations of gravitational wave detectors. In particular, design and fabrication of micro-resonators for use in measurements of cryogenic coating mechanical loss (directly related to thermal noise) of amorphous oxide coatings, and measurements of optical absorption of crystalline coatings. |
