Abstract:

In this research paper, the Italian situation with respect to the diffusion of plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) is presented. To analyze such a broad topic, the paper has been divided into two parts. The first one aims at understanding if the ecosystem of companies operating around PEV in Italy is ready to support its diffusion. To answer such a question, a framework that mimics the different life-cycle stages of a BEV has been created so to understand how the different actors are positioning in the market. Governments too should promote electric mobility, as companies by themselves cannot push the diffusion of BEV. The second part of the thesis, through a multiple linear regression analysis aims at understanding the macroeconomic factors that drive the diffusion of electric vehicles worldwide. The results of this study showed how the Italian ecosystem of companies is very young therefore limiting the BEV diffusion. Furthermore, the regression analysis revealed how the Italian government should promote the production of energy from renewable sources, increase the number of V2G projects, put in place national fiscal incentives to build public recharging stations and increase the taxes on gasoline to push the BEV diffusion.
