Abstract: |
Old Delhi - known as Shahjahanabad - can be considered a living historic city, where the built heritage shows often a lack of maintenance and preservation throughout the ages. Studying what heritage and conservation area in India and understanding what it has been done until now in this field, I chose to focus my attention on a traditional courtyard mansion type constructed during the Mughal period, called "haveli". Analyzing a neighborhood called Dharampura, I tried to better understand the urban reality, with its main features, and to meet people living/working there. So, my final goal is thinking of the reuse of an haveli in Old Delhi– thanks to an adaptive reuse design project - that would like to be a pilot project showing a common path and tangible action to revitalize all the havelis of the historic city.
