Abstract: |
Bellavista is a district in Ivrea, also one of the districts that embody Adriano Olivetti’s "Community" thinking. The birth of Bellavista was meant to solve the increasing demand for housing in the post-war period, moreover, it was an urban experimental satellite community in Ivrea. In Bellavista, there is a social center with well-equipped facilities including commercial center, church, school, sports area, extensive green areas, etcetera, all these compositions make it could keep activity and self-sufficiency. Nowadays, the social structure has changed a lot, but, it is still an active district in Ivrea, it becomes a more diverse community with more immigrants moving in. This thesis aims at retracing the construction history of the Bellavista district and analyzing its architectural, cultural, and social aspects, demonstrating the value and spirit of this district. Furthermore, the thesis tries to explore the future development of the Bellavista by analyzing the new urban planning of Ivrea city (PRGC Ivrea 2030), then, propose a framework for the district qualification based on the knowledge of the strategies of the city; meanwhile, tries to carry out a discussion on the preservation and enhancement of the cultural and social heritage of this Olivettian housing district. |
