Abstract: |
In recent times, there has been a noticeable surge in populism within the global political landscape. While the phenomenon of labor market polarization, often referred to as job polarization, a key driver in developed countries, has garnered considerable attention, it has remained relatively unexamined in emerging markets such as India. The aim of the thesis is to provide a preliminary examination of the coexistence of job polarization and populism in India. Using a combination of descriptive analysis, a comprehensive literature review, economic data analysis, and an assessment of political developments, this study reveals that job polarization and populism have occurred simultaneously in India in recent years. This study urges academia to delve deeper into the dynamic relationship between job polarization and populism in emerging markets, with India serving as a prominent case study. As populism continues to shape the landscape of global politics and job polarization exerts a significant impact on labor markets, understanding their interplay becomes increasingly important. By advocating for more extensive scholarly investigations in emerging markets, particularly India, this work sets the foundation for more profound inquiries and policy-informed analyses in the future. |
