Abstract:

This document is the result of the project that I conducted during my 6-months internship at Iveco Group headquarter, in Turin. Iveco Group is a global automotive leader active in the commercial and specialty vehicles, powertrain and related financial services arenas. It is composed of 8 unique, yet unified, Brands and it employs more than 35.000 people around the world and it counts several manufacturing plants, 20 industrial sites and 29 research and development centres. Among Iveco Group’s portfolio, Iveco represents one of the main core brands; it is a pioneering and global leader in designing, manufacturing and commercialization of a wide range of trucks. Overall, it includes the light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles featured by both fossil derived fuels and ecological diesel and natural gas engines. The lack of a Maintenance Engineering unit managed by an Iveco’s central structure which is in charge of setting and regulating common plant maintenance standards, KPIs, policies and strategies, for all truck industrial sites within the brand perimeter, was the reason that led to the need for this project and thesis work. Industrial maintenance is nowadays fundamental for manufacturing companies whose industrial sites utilize heavy-duty machinery for mass production to prevent machine breakdowns that disrupt operations and satisfactory results in terms of efficiency and production; maintenance becomes and actually is an important and strategic tool to fulfil company’s target. The objectives of my analysis on the industrial maintenance conducted in the Iveco manufacturing truck Europe plants were mainly 3 and may be summarized as follow: 1.??Examine and analyse the maintenance strategies of several manufacturing sites according to some common themes 2.??Benchmark the analysed industrial sites in order to compare the different maintenance policies 3.??Evaluate further maintenance indexes to examine in a clear, neutral and balance manner the obtained results The end goal of this benchmarking and data analysis was to organize a workshop with all the maintenance and manufacturing area managers of the analysed plants for the discussion of future strategic actions regarding the industrial maintenance strategies to be applied in Iveco’s manufacturing sites. Overall, this thesis consists of eight chapters, including the introduction, and it is intended to be a general description of the company in which I carried out my internship, the analysis conducted and the shareable results obtained; to conclude, some future suggestions that could be introduced in Iveco’s manufacturing plants regarding their adopted industrial maintenance strategies are depicted.
