Project management applied to the construction of a production plant

The purpose of this work is to provide project management tools to a practical case of plant construction. After a literature review about knowledge on theories and methodologies for readers who lack prior knowledge and a brief company presentation with aims and goals of the Tau, this study aim to focus on one of the main projects Tau started in 2022 and that will be mainly developed during 2023, related to the build-up of an initial small plant to introduce the company to production take-off. The thesis will apply knowledge gained from PM in terms of WBS, definition of tasks and activities, roles and responsibilities, activities’ duration and reflections on critical path; risk management and contingency plan; budget definition both considering activities and risks. The goal is to show how these tools will provide benefits in the overall management of construction phases during its build-up: to do so, project monitoring tools will be applied, even if in an early state, to show how tasks are acting in both schedule and cost, compared to what was planned. In the ending pages, there are some considerations regarding effective benefits given to the company, thesis’ constraints and future steps (with actions to implement for the study’s improvements). For an accurate and complete overview on the project, in terms of performances, time and total budget, the study should constantly be updated at the reach of each milestone, in order to provide values always more precise.
