Abstract:

In order to mitigate the climate changes effects, the European Union established several funds and initiatives for the energy transition, one of these is the Clean Energy For EU islands. This kind of initiatives requires the developing of a transition agenda, encouraging a collaboration between the European Secretariat, the technical team, the stakeholders and the local communities. One of the greatest challenges of these types of collaborations is the settling of the energy system's objectives between the stakeholders and the technical team, and usually this requires several meetings between the two parts. In this thesis work, some tools for the scenario planning have been developed to make the scheduling of the scenarios easier, including their presentation. Using the Egadi's islands energy systems as reference, the developed tool helped in generating about 5000 energy scenarios. Those scenarios submitted the islands' energy systems to different working conditions, including demands increments, ferries modeling, storages technologies variations and renewable power potentials ranges. The final results demonstrate that they are strongly dependent on the input conditions, and if compared they could give interesting points of view regarding the adopted technologies. Furthermore, they demonstrated that the energy transition of the islands is actually feasible, reaching overall cost reductions around 50% and CO2 emissions reduction over 90%.
