Abstract: |
ABSTRACT This work originates from the necessity to establish a set of tools useful for the urban and architectural planning in order to find an interaction between formal and informal city. Nowadays, urban population and spontaneous settlements are constantly increasing and the idea to stop this phenomena is not realistic anymore. The assumption of this work is the consideration of informal settlement as a part of the contemporary city that the urban planning have to face instead of ignoring it. Unlike the usual politics of exclusion, of which Rome and many contemporary Cities have always been the victims, my project seeks to find a methodology that gives the possibility to citizens living below the poverty line to integrate into the consolidated city. The starting point of my work is an analysis of the problems of the contemporary city, focusing in particular on Rome, which led me to the drafting of a strategy that includes different actions on different scales. In fact, the proposal is extended from the scale of the city to the scale of individual living unit, in a process whose key words are transformation, connection and duplication.
