This thesis explores the increasing number of abandoned rural school buildings in Iran and their potential for revitalization as community infrastructure. The research was initiated by an observation. An abandoned village school in the center of Iran has, for several years, been informally transformed by residents into a shoe-making workshop. Rather than viewing this transformation as an isolated event, the study considers it as an implication of broader social and demographic shifts. The research first analyses the frameworks and regulations that have shaped the design and construction of schools in Iran across three publications in three distinct social and political contexts.
