Abstract
A major contributor to global greenhouse gas emission has always been the construction sector. The major culprit at the heart of this sector is concrete. It is extensively used, high embodied carbon and extensively relies on virgin raw materials. The efficiency-driven design has significantly decreased the operational energy demands. With that, the relative significance of embodied carbon has also increased. This has shifted attention towards material selection as a critical tool for sustainable architecture. In this context, one potential strategy for reducing environmental impact is using recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) which also supports circular economy principles. However, concerns regarding durability, mechanical performance, professional risk perception, and regulatory constraints have limited the adoption of the recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) in architectural practices.
This study looks at the potential use of the recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) within architectural practices, as a replacement for conventional concrete (NC)
