Abstract
Urbanization is expected to intensify in the coming years, while climate change impacts will increasingly affect urban environments. In this context, Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) have emerged as effective strategies to restore urban ecosystems, reduce climate-related risks and generate multiple co-benefits. However, their evaluation remains complex, as their multidimensional effects are difficult to capture within a single assessment framework. Most existing evaluation methods tend to treat the economic dimension as a separate domain, structurally disconnected from environmental and social considerations, an approach that often requires complex monetization procedures and ex-post integration mechanisms. This research thesis aims to address this gap by proposing a spatially grounded multicriteria framework, capable of integrating environmental, economic, and social criteria without forcing their reduction to a single monetary-equivalent scale.
Rather than treating economic valuation as a separate module requiring subsequent integration, the proposed methodology positions it as one criterion among others, alongside environmental performance and social benefits, preserving the multidimensional nature of NBS assessment while reducing the systemic complexity typical of hybrid evaluation approaches
