Development and parameterization of a software system for the automatic management of curing presses based on production defects.

Abstract
Curing is a fundamental step in the tire manufacturing process, carried out by means of the so-called curing presses. During the curing process, defects may occur due to a variety of causes; these defects are subsequently identified and reported in the after-curing department. In order to prevent repeated curing cycles that yield only unusable tires, which must be discarded and cannot be sold, the verification department notifies the curing department by phone. However, this procedure presents several problems. In fact, this process relies entirely on human intervention, which is inherently fallible: the time elapsed between the inspection staff’s notification and the actual press shutdown is influenced by numerous factors that can frequently cause further delays, resulting in increased production output that fails to meet the minimum quality standards set by the Michelin plant in Cuneo.
Another major issue addressed concerns the suboptimal completeness and immediacy of the traceability and accountability of the corrective actions, performed on the presses following these notifications, in order to resume production in the most appropriate manner
