Abstract
The diffusion of electric vehicles increases electricity demand and makes charging management increasingly relevant, especially in isolated networks where energy costs, renewables integration, and system flexibility are critical. In such contexts, transport electrification and renewable energy penetration should be assessed jointly to support more effective energy system configurations. This thesis investigates the case of the island of La Gomera, by linking smart charging with island-scale energy system simulations through the integration of optimized charging profiles. The research examines whether smart charging can reduce the additional energy costs of EV demand and how its effects propagate when the resulting charging profiles are integrated into the island's energy system analysis.
