Rel. Nicola Pedroni. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Ingegneria Energetica E Nucleare, 2026
Abstract
Ansaldo Meccanico Nucleare S.p.A was founded in Genoa in the 1966, becoming part of Ansaldo Energia in the 1999. Since the 1st November 2005 it has been constituted as an autonomous company, entirely controlled by Ansaldo Energia. Ansaldo Nucleare supplies engineering service for the nuclear industry through service on operating nuclear power plants (NPPs) and design activities for new projects, including development of Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and Generation IV reactors (also called Advanced Reactors). Since 2013, Ansaldo Nucleare puts its effort and contribution in the study and design of a Lead cooled Fast reactors (LFR), firstly within ALFRED project (Advanced Lead Fast Reactor European Demonstrator) with the ambition to be the first European LFR demonstrator and ultimately with EAGLES-300, a commercial small modular reactor, developed in a consortium with ENEA, Raten ICN and SCK-CEN.
The direction of development and research of the civil nuclear energy focuses nowadays on generation IV reactors, aiming at improvements in sustainability, economics, safety, reliability and non-proliferation characteristics
