Abstract
Solar energy represents one of the most abundant renewable energy resources and offers significant potential to support the transition toward sustainable energy systems. However, the intermittent nature of solar radiation requires efficient methods for energy conversion and storage to ensure reliable and continuous energy supply. Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies enable the generation of high-temperature thermal energy, which can be utilized to drive thermochemical processes capable of storing solar energy in the form of chemical fuels. Among these approaches, solar-driven two-step redox cycles have attracted considerable interest as a pathway for the splitting of carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) to produce synthesis gas (syngas), a key intermediate to produce synthetic fuels and chemicals.
Despite significant experimental developments in solar thermochemical reactors, a comprehensive understanding of reactor behavior and heat transfer mechanisms under operating conditions remains limited
