Abstract
Interactions between laser and plasma have been drawing attention due to their various applications, from the production of energy by inertial confinement fusion to the acceleration of particles. The focus is maximizing the absorption of energy from the laser by the target. A promising solution for that is the use of foams. Foams are porous solids that have been shown to perform better than other solutions in terms of deposition of energy from the interaction with a laser. In spite of this, interactions with such a medium are yet to be fully understood, and work is being carried out to improve their knowledge also thanks to more accurate and reliable models.
The present thesis’ goal is to study how foams interact with laser pulses at a microscopic level, considering a single foam elemental unit; in particular, the main interest of this work is the dependence of the physical phenomena governing the energy absorption on the foam parameters
