Abstract
The traditional goal of a business is to maximize profits and shareholder returns, as firms have historically been considered as economic entities with just one objective: create financial value for their owners. This way of thinking is considered outdated now a days, and firms are required to take into consideration not only economic performance but also their environmental and social impacts. Extreme climate change, resource depletion, pollution and social issues such as inequality, labor rights and community impact are quickly becoming critical challenges to face to achieve sustainable development and ensure long-term well-being. Sustainable Business Models (SBMs) tackle those challenges by adopting a holistic approach based on the consideration that no business operates in isolation.
A wide range of stakeholders is considered including suppliers, employees, local communities and the natural environment
