Abstract
Abstract The increasing availability of energy-related data at local and regional levels has created new opportunities for evidence-based territorial energy planning. However, the effective use of such data requires backend systems capable of managing heterogeneous information across multiple spatial scales, temporal resolutions, and analytical dimensions. This thesis presents the design and implementation of the backend of a multi-scale energy information system for Italy, developed to support exploratory analysis and decision-making at the municipality, province, and regional levels. The work initially started from a data storage approach based on multiple domain-specific tables, with separate structures for energy consumption, production, and future production scenarios.
While functional, this design introduced redundancy, limited flexibility, and increased complexity when aggregating data across administrative levels or comparing scenarios
