Abstract
Perinatal brain complications are among the leading causes of neonatal disability and developmental disorders. Currently, the assessment of fetal brain status relies mainly on techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetoencephalography (MEG), and ultrasound. Although effective, these methods are expensive, not suitable for continuous or frequent monitoring, and above all, they cannot be applicable during labor. An alternative approach is non-invasive fetal electroencephalography (fEEG), which consists of recording the fetal brain electrical activity from abdominal signals acquired through surface electrodes placed on the maternal abdomen. Also referred to as transabdominal fetal electroencephalography, this technique is safe, non-invasive, and potentially accessible even in low-resource settings.
Despite its potential, accurate extraction of fEEG from abdominal recordings remains an open challenge, primarily due to the inherent difficulty of the task
