Abstract
Mitral valve replacement represents an important therapeutic option when repair is not feasible or the native valve is severely compromised. However, prosthetic implantation not only restores valvular competence, but also modifies the intraventricular flow generated during ventricular filling. Since altered flow patterns may affect ventricular washout, energy dissipation and blood stagnation, a detailed characterization of the left ventricular flow is essential. The aim of this thesis was to perform an in vitro hemodynamic comparison between two mitral valve prosthetics with different designs, namely a trileaflet valve and a monoleaflet valve. Specifically, the Perimount valve was used for the trileaflet design and the Epygon transcatheter mitral valve was used for the monoleaflet design.
The objective was to assess which configuration was able to generate a more physiological intraventricular filling pattern under controlled conditions
