Abstract
The ATLAS detector relies on a large electronic infrastructure requiring reliable thermal management to ensure stable operation of its readout and control systems. The cooling method of the ATLAS electronics racks is based on a closed-loop air-circulation system in which tangential turbines circulate air through air-water heat exchangers connected to the CERN chilled-water network. The original turbine units currently used in the cooling system are no longer commercially available. Consequently, a replacement turbine configuration must be integrated while maintaining compatibility with the existing rack infrastructure and preserving cooling performance. This thesis presents the integration and validation of a revised ventilation system for ATLAS electronics racks.
The work includes CAD reconstruction of the turbine assemblies using existing digital models and reverse engineering techniques, the design of adaptation components, prototype assembly, simplified rotor dynamics analysis, development of an assembly procedure and experimental validation
